I am sort of being offered a 2007 RSV1000R (NOT the Factory) for my EXUP and 3 grand. It's got about 2000 miles on it but has fallen over, so one side of the belly pan is cracked and scuffed.
I'm tempted but it came up in a meeting at work that the lad's got a cash flow problem and I've never considered spending that sort of money on a bike before. So it's not as though I'm even looking for a 4 grand bike.
I've got it through my head now that I think I could stomach that but if I've decided that I can spend that much tne there must be plenty of other good stuff out there for that money.
If I went for this then is the bike worth 4 grand all day long so I can get my money back at the other end?

I suppose so. I'm not sure what a dealer would offer him for it, so I've got to pitch it right.
It's got damage on the belly pan where it fell over and according to Aprilia its £375 to replace it. So I could push for that, put the money on the table and give him 24 hours to yes/no it.

Point out the cost of the damage and the inconvenience of having to get it done and try for £2500 cash and the exup...you can always then up the offer slightly Al

How well do you know him? Offer him £2500 then haggle. If he gets offended, then tough. Nice bikes Lee, handle superb, good 2 up believe it or not. Pity ExupChris didn't go on forum anymore, coz he's got a RSV. He lives about 5 mins from me, but not sure of his shifts, coz I ain't seen him for over a year now. I would go for it because I like them, its the new shape on a 07 plate and they are very reliable. Just don't let the battery go flat as its fooks the starter cranking them over. Another friend has a 05 one and he loves it, looking to trade for a new one maybe soon.

He's in the same department at work and started a few months ago. I reckon he's struggling to get work as he's commuting from Skipton. He had a bookshop that went belly up and an ongoing divorce, so it sounds like his finances are fooked.
I doubt he'll go for 2.5K+EXUP. I don't understand why he doesn't just stick it on ebay for 4K (a similar one went for 4250 last night).
Maybe he would go for starting at 3500 cash and forget the EXUP, as it's more immediate reddies. I think the next step is to let him make the next move so as not to sound too keen.

Just had a look at the 07 bike on google images and have to say it looks real nice. Only problem with letting him make the next move is that somebody else may come along with some cash and steal a bargain from under your nose.... Hope you get it and for a good price as they look a really nice bike....and the one in superbikes today was leaving the inline fours for dead out of the corners Al

Deal's off. He's going to take it to a dealer for a price "sometime in the next 2 weeks".
That means he would only offer it to me to get a better price. That's not what I'm interested in... I want to get a bargain... after all, I've got cash in the bank so why not get the best deal I can.

Depends what the dealer offers though. He might only give him 2,500 anyway.

If that's the case then he might come back to me. If he does I'll have a good negotiating position.
